Profile
Sight for Africa, established in 2003, aims to provide essential eye care services to vulnerable and underserved communities in Ghana, with a focus on preventing avoidable blindness. Founded by Dr. Kofi Ghartey, a Canadian optician originally from Ghana, the initiative began with a vision to serve his home country and improve access to eye care for those in need.
In 2004, Medical Ministry International (MMI) began supporting the efforts of Dr. Kofi and his wife Vivian, helping to expand the impact of Sight for Africa. Together, they established a full-service eye clinic in Darkuman-Kokompe, Accra, which is now an MMI Partner Health Center. The clinic serves as a hub for providing comprehensive eye care to the local population.
Sight for Africa is further supported by USA for Africa, which helps to provide the necessary medical supplies and equipment. Through these partnerships, the organization is able to offer vital services such as eye exams, treatments, and corrective surgeries, benefiting thousands of individuals in Ghana who might otherwise lack access to proper eye care.
With a mission to alleviate preventable blindness and improve the quality of life for its patients, Sight for Africa has become a key player in the country’s healthcare system, particularly in eye care services. Through continued collaboration and support, the organization is working towards a future where everyone, regardless of their economic status, has access to the eye care they need.
